Transmission. 

Parvovirus B19 can be transmitted by respiratory secretions(saliva,sputum,and nasal mucus).

Species affected:

Homo Sapiens because it is strictly a human pathogen

Hosts:  Humans

Fifth’s Disease:

Symptoms:

fever,
runny nose, and
headache
Itching
“slapped cheek” rash, can happen on chest, back, buttocks, or arms and legs,feet,could come and go for weeks and goes away in 7-10 days but could last a long time
Treatment:
This is mild and will go away on its own,people who recover fully will be immune to it once recovered. But treatment usually just involves treating the symptoms,like fever,headaches, painful joints, etc. People who have complications with this, should contact their physician. There is no vaccine or medication for preventing Parvovirus B-19.
Prevention:
washing hands often
covering mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth
avoiding close contact with people who are sick
staying home when sick

Arthropathy:
Symptoms:
Painful or swollen joints(more common in adults)-usually in the hands, feet, or knees and could not have any other symptoms;could last 1-3 weeks or months
Treatment: Analgesic Anti Inflammatory oral medication
Prevention: Maintain an overall good health and do daily exercise to avoid this

Transient Aplastic Crisis:

If people with chronic conditions are affected by Parvovirus B19 they can go through this where the body stops making RBC,which can then lead to severe anemia.
Symptoms:
Extreme tiredness
Weakness
Severe anemia
Treatment:
Self limiting disease
If the patient has symptoms associated with acute anemia, the patient needs a blood transfusion and some might need immunoglobulin.



Outbreaks:

In parts of the world where there are varying climates, people tend to get infected by Parvovirus B19 most often in late winter, spring, and early summer. Local outbreaks could occur every 3-4 years. Its a rare disease which affects 1 in 2,000 people

BSL 2 which means that the virus poses moderate hazard to humans and the environment,yet is safe to work in.
